BROKEN BANK OR WILDCAT NOTE 1862 $1 The Bank of North America, Philadelphia, PA.

I RECENTLY RECIEVED THE FOLLOWING SCAN FROM ONE OF OUR VISITORS AT OLDUSCURRENCY.COM:

1862 $1 The Bank of North America, Philadelphia, PA.

This is known as a "broken bank" or "wildcat" note.  They were issued during the movement westward in the 1860s.  This note only has one side: the obverse, or the front.

This is a historically important note of this bank that lasted from 1782-1864 and then it became a national bank and finally bowed out in 1923. It was the only national bank without "National" in its title. The Washington encampment vignette adds to the desirability.

Although old in age, these broken bank wildcat notes do not seem to be as collectable as more traditional late-1800s/ early-1900s notes have become.  I would value this at about $125-$150.
